The Horn Knot is a versatile tool for various rope-related tasks, such as attaching a calf roping rope to a saddle horn or protecting the horn from rope burn. It consists of a braided rope, around 15 feet in length, that is tied around the neck of the horn. Additional measures, such as rubber dally wraps or mule hide horn wraps, can be added for extra protection. When using a three-strand rope, the knot forms a triangular shape, and all four strings are threaded through the middle. It is recommended to tighten the knot by hand before using pliers. This custom knot works best with 3-strand ropes, preferably at least 3/8 inch in nylon or 10mm in poly, or a larger diameter.
